Can you describe your current role and responsibilities?
As Commercial Director my role is to help build the strategy and execute it. I have a day-to-day responsibility for ensuring that we grow profitably both organically, through projects such as Consumer Duty and through judicious acquisition of quality books of business from fellow Financial Planning Firms that share our values ie caring deeply about our clients.
What has been your journey so far?
I have a Commercial background which has focussed on Distribution from 2000 – Tied, IFA and Non-advised. Line experience has included working on significant projects (biggest was being the Commercial and Finance Lead on an outsourcing deal worth over £600m) after which my role has grew into wide ranging General Management including leading initiatives from major distribution deals to proposition development in addition to having line responsibility for Corporate Partners, Commercial Finance, Proposition, Telesales, Retail Sales development and Change. I took time out from July 2018 to take the Financial Planning Diploma before Digby demonstrated more faith in me than I had in myself at the time by taking me on as Commercial Director and Financial Adviser in 2019. I’ve been very lucky in my career with my roles and bosses, but this is without doubt the best job I’ve ever had.
What do you enjoy most about working in your field?
From an early age I’ve been interested in business, in fact my very first job was setting up a Window cleaning round I set up when I was 14! What I enjoy most about what we do is helping our clients to build and protect their wealth so they can do the things they want to do. I have always enjoyed driving positive change and this role allows me to do that in spades.
What’s a fun fact about you or an interesting hobby you enjoy?
Outside of work mainly revolves around family with my better half Sarah, 3 daughters, Laura, Anna & Kate and Lucy our uber friendly spaniel who is not a stranger to the office!
